INDIAN RIVER
Fishing report for Saturday Feb. 9th and Monday the 11th..... Saturday morning started off on the Maverick, a load of live shrimp and Kevin from the "windy city"...we headed south from Vero to Ft. Pierce....The water and weather were great..water temperature was 72 and fairly clean...We started out working docks for snapper and found plenty of small ones...and then the 3-5lb jacks moved in and kept our rods bent for a little while as the dolphin sat back and watched. I should mention that I wanted to try a lighter rig so I went with a smaller rod and reel and 8lb test mono...then I get a big "look down" fish ...we don't see those very often up in Vero.... I started to work the shore line looking for reds while talking to Capt. Bob on his Saturday morning fishing talk show on WTTB when I spotted a real nice red. I had to cut Capt. Bob off and try for the red...The red went to deeper water and I slowly headed that way making blind casts along the way. The direction the red went took me to another dock. I see the red (about 24 incher) and cast. Bang, I get hit by a 24 inch snook.....go figure...a few minutes later and after getting cut off I catch the red...then another, and another....3 hours later and after being cut off about 10 times, we finished with 9 reds...6 in the slot....14 snook, all between 18 and 24 inches...a couple of nice snapper and one sheepshead......not a bad day....... I must say that after being cut off I went to 50lb leader and a 5/0 hook with a small split weight....It made all of the difference... You have to try new things from time to time..... Monday found the weather cooler and with more wind....This time on the pontoon with Bob and Kevin from Iowa....Joe, who scheduled the trip, was sick.....Anyway, we header north this time, trying to get out of the north by north east wind....We again started hitting docks, only we stayed at the first one for 2 hours......The action was non-stop...black drum, sheepshead, black drum, puffer, and so on....We left after putting 8 nice drum and 5 sheepshead in the cooler....and went to the next spot about a mile away and added 2 more black drum and 2 more sheepshead to the cooler....we moved a few more times with a little success.....knowing that we had to be back at the dock by 1PM to pick up there wives for lunch and a cruise on the water, I figured it would take me some time to clean this bunch....Arriving at the dock and letting the guys get a few pictures I started cleaning fish.....20 all total...10 black drum between 3-5 lbs and 10 sheepshead between 2-4 lbs...not a bad day... While cleaning our bunch, a friend of mine, Capt Mark was returning with his charter. He had gone south on his flats boat and found a good mess of nice snapper, a pompano and some spanish mackeral....He too had a real nice day... You too can have a nice day, maybe not as nice as the two trip above, but call me, we'll do our best. Until next time, Stay safe and tight lines. Capt. Paul Fafeita 772-562-5978 www.justbumminit.com

Several well-known faces will be competing in the event, including former U.S. football players Mark Cooper and Gary Dunn, as well as Baseball Hall of Famer Wade Boggs. Teams will be catch-and-release fishing for marlin and sailfish, with additional points for reeling in other species.
The event is organized by the Boomer Esiason Foundation, which seeks to aid those afflicted by cystic fibrosis and to advance research on the disease. The sports broadcaster and former NFL quarterback set up the foundation after his son Gunnar was diagnosed with the condition in 1993. All proceeds from the competition will go to help Costa Rican children and young adults who suffer from cystic fibrosis.
“Every year we are excited about the growth of this fun and rewarding tournament while helping youngsters in Costa Rica who are afflicted by (cystic fibrosis),” said foundation president and former star football player Dave Rimington, who will also be taking part in the competition.
Cystic fibrosis is a genetic illness that causes the body to produce abnormally thick, sticky mucus that collects in the lungs and can lead to life-threatening pulmonary infections. The mucus also obstructs the pancreas, interfering with the digestive system. Although there is no cure, medication and therapy can greatly improve sufferers' quality of life.
Teams of two to six anglers are invited to enter. Registration for the competition costs $700 per entrant. For more information or to register online, visit www.costaricaclassic. com. To learn more about the Boomer Esiason Foundation, go to www.esiason.com.nTico Times Staff

REPUBLIC OF PANAMA
Panama Fishing Report for:
Feb 6.2008
Marlin fishing this month has been the best anyone has seen. Through Jan. 27th, with still 4 fishing days left -we fished 8 groups and have caught 30 marlin so far. Also a lot of large dolphin, mullet snapper, cubera snapper, sailfish and have caught 17 tuna over 100 lb. with the biggest at 240lb. We also had a lot of sharks here for two weeks. I am waiting to get a photo back from Trevor Gowdy - he was filming here and caught a 12 footer around 600lb. Most were around 150lb - captains called them Needle sharks - look a lot like a Mako but are brown - not blue. So am interested to get them identified. Never have caught them here before and last 5 days have not caught another one. Also had a big blow the first week - could not fish for two days but it laid right down after that. [b]Captain Lee Campbell
Lee, Good to hear that all the guys have had some luck. With out question the three days that Jason and I had there were as good as I could have imagined. Good luck for the rest of the season...We had a great trip and if we come back to Panama it will be to the Big Game Club. Best wishes, Jack and Jason Cooper
Lee, It was truly a great experience to fish with you and your crews, I look forward to a return trip. I take the XXL in a T shirt and will wear it with pride knowing that I have fished with one of the great Panamanian big game fishing camps, so thank you again for a great experience. Very Truly Yours, Steven R. Rothenberger
Capt. Lee, Here are a few pictures from our trip. It's too bad the color of Kirk's dorado isn't brighter. Or, it's too bad my brightly colored dorado isn't larger! Thanks again for a wonderful time. We really enjoyed the fishing, food, accommodations and crew. As you can see by the fourth picture, we even had fun when it was too windy to fish. How did the other two groups come out for their fishing totals? We had a great time in Panama City. We toured the canal, went to El Valle, visited with the Emberra Indians and enjoyed the sights around our hotel. Thanks, Peggy and Kirk
Lee, We had the best time ever. The marlin fishing was the best we have ever had. 7 out of 11 in 4 days fishing is unreal especially considering their size . I sent a couple of pictures but I'm not too good with the camera and most of my fishing shoots are of splashes or tails . Everyone here is jealous and wants to come with us when we come back. Again thanks for a great trip and we will fish with you again. Doug Roscoe
Good Fishing, Wherever You Are !! Capt Bob
